This 2 day course covers all the theory needed to use and keep a chainsaw running safely, with sessions covering saw chain, guide bar, and power unit maintenance.

This training will prepare you for the NPTC City & Guilds or LANTRA qualifications.

You’ll learn all the theory needed to use and keep a chainsaw running safely, with key sessions covering saw chain, guide bar, and power unit maintenance.

And you’ll gain hands-on experience of starting a chainsaw, run through all the pre-cutting tests and learn the skills needed to expertly cross-cut timber.

It will cover:

  • HSE legislation and safety guidelines
  • Overview of the chainsaw and maintenance equipment
  • Maintaining the saw chain
  • Maintaining the guide bar
  • Power unit maintenance
  • Starting the chainsaw and pre-cutting tests
  • Cross-cutting timber and felled timber

You will need to be over 18 to take this course with us.
There are no pre requisites but you will need to provide your own chainsaw and PPE

You will be required to provide your own PPE and equipment. Please ensure that each item is in a good state of repair and meets current British Safety approved standards.

Please wear suitable outdoor clothing appropriate to the training and the weather conditions.

You will need to bring your own drinks and lunch for the day.

You will need to supply:

  1. Chainsaw not more than 15” bar
  2. Fuel for chainsaw
  3. Chainsaw boots
  4. Chainsaw protective trousers
  5. Chainsaw gloves
  6. British safety standard helmet with ear defenders and visor
  7. Non snag upper body clothing
  8. Tool kit for saw
  9. A personal first aid kit
  10. A whistle
